Now Accepting Applications for the 2020 New York State Farm to School Institute
The New York State Farm to School Institute provides support for participating schools that is tailored to New York’s unique landscape. School teams leave with enhanced technical knowledge and support on how to procure and prepare local foods, tools for community engagement, and classroom and culinary education. Upon completion of the Institute, schools become alumni members of a NYS Farm to School Institute Network – continuing to share best practices and resources with others championing farm to school for years to come.
Our program offers a direct opportunity to improve the health of students and strengthen the agricultural economy by bringing farm fresh local foods into school cafeterias statewide. Key features of the NYS Farm to School Institute include:
- A three-day kickoff retreat June 1-4 at the Omega Institute in Rhinebeck, NY
- Farm to School action plan development and implementation stipend
- Coaching and peer networking for one year
- A one-day mid-year gathering to assess progress and provide further support
